I am 5 feet 10 inches tall and I weigh 150 lbs. I recently got a blood test done. Everything was normal except ALT and AST levels. My AST is  30 Jul 2017 AST and ALT tend to be high in liver disease and very high in liver inflammation. ALT is mainly found in the liver. AST is also found in muscle and  29 Jul 2019 Liver disease is more likely when the values of AST and ALT are higher, ALT rising more than AST in acute liver damage. Very high levels  16 Mar 2021 High concentration was seen in the cardiac muscle and liver.

A variety of factors that can affect your results. Typically the range for normal AST is reported between 10 to 40 units per liter and ALT between 7 to 56 units per liter. Mild elevations are generally considered to be 2-3 times higher than the normal range. In some conditions, these enzymes can be severely elevated, in the 1000s range.

Answer (1 of 14): A high liver enzyme count is in an indication of liver damage or injury. A high liver enzyme count is over 40 units per liter of serum (the liquid part of the blood) for AST (SGOT) and over 56 units for ALT (SGPT).Under normal circumstances, liver enzymes (proteins) live in the cells of the liver. Moderately high levels, often less than 4 times the upper limit of normal (ULN) are seen in the slowly developing variety of liver disease, chronic hepatitis, as well as alcohol abuse, cholestasis and heart, kidney or skeletal muscle damage The AST level can also be increased following the breakdown of red blood cells (haemolysis).

High levels of AST. There are high levels of AST enzymes in kidney, heart, liver, muscle tissues and pancreas. Also the high AST level may be present after birth and at an advanced age. When the test for the AST is done and found to be abnormal, the liver could be under attack. 2018-07-13 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and rheumatoid arthritis.

When mine first went up they were ALT: 848, AST: 740. I know of others who were in the 1000's. Everyone is different though with how their bodies react to the increases. I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis.

My ALT is 140, AST is 40, and Bilirubin is 0.3. I haven't spoken with my doctor because the results came directly from the lab. What does it mean if you have high ALT, but normal AST? Very high levels of AST (more than 10 times the highest normal level) are usually due to a rapidly developing liver disease called acute hepatitis, which is often due to a virus infection. In acute hepatitis, AST levels usually stay elevated for about 1–2 months, but can take as long as 3–6 months to return to normal. 2020-07-01 · Another reason AST test results are slightly higher is due to hepatitis. It’s important to get tested if you think there’s a chance you have this condition.

The amount of AST in the blood is directly related to the extent of the tissue damage.

No My Dr. had me see a cardiologist to follow up and also had a blood test checking my ALT and AST. The cardiologist ruled out a heart problem but when the blood work came back my ALT was normal but AST was elevated. It read 67 with 42 being high normal reading. My Dr. said we should follow up with another blood test in 4 months.

AST is present in both cytoplasm and mitochondria of cells. In cases involving mild tissue injury, the predominant form of AST is that from the cytoplasm. Severe tissue damage results in more of the mitochondrial enzyme being 2 dagar sedan · An AST test may be done if a child has signs of a possible liver problem, such as jaundice (yellowish skin or eyes), dark urine, nausea, vomiting, or belly pain.

Liver supportive medicines will also be useful.
